Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw wrapped up play at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite with a pair of losses to Wartburg. The Tigers dropped the opener, 4-3, and fell in the nightcap by a 6-4 score in eight innings. DePauw dropped to 8-10, while Wartburg improved to 11-9.
In the opener, Wartburg took a 3-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Bella Mulder, Rylie Metz and Riley Feeley.
DePauw evened the score in the second as
Paige Brady delivered a two-run single and then scored on
Kendall Hynes' double.Â
Neither team scored until Wartburg's Sydney Fellows singled with one out in the seventh and Reagan Hassel followed with a walk-off triple.
Five different Tigers collected one hit each, while Hassel and Carley Bredar each had two of Wartburg's nine hits.
Riley Depa dropped to 6-3 and Hannah Luellen improved to 4-5.
Bredar's first-inning single in the second game scored Hassel and gave the Knights a 1-0 lead before DePauw took the lead in the second as
Callie Rheinheimer hit a solo homer and Hynes singled home
Madi Lockridge.
Fellows tied the contest at 2-2 with a solo blast in the third and the score remained tied forcing extra innings and the tiebreaker rule.
Feeley's single brought home Amanda Strzyewski before Addy Wells moved Feeley to third on a sacrifice bunt. Fellows plated Feeley with a single and Hassel reached on an error before Bredar advanced both runners with a bunt. Jenna Wiebenga extended the Wartburg lead to 6-2 with a two-run single.
With
Riley Heim placed on second to start the inning,
Ella Kuenster drew a walk and Rheinheimer reached on a fielder's choice that forced Heim at third. Brady singled to load the bases and Lockridge reached on a fielder's choice that scored Kuenster. Hynes also reached on a fielder's choice that plated
Evy Krueger, but a ground out ended the game.
Seven different Tigers collected one hit each, while Fellows had three of the Knights' eight hits.
Romero-Salas fell to 2-2 and Avery Mull improved to 6-4.
DePauw returns to play on Thursday, April 3, when it hosts 10th-ranked Trine at 3:30 p.m.
