Greencastle, Ind. - Hope scored five straight goals in the third and fourth quarters to pull away from DePauw and grab a 17-14 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 4-5, while the Flying Dutch improved to 4-4.
Neither team held more than a two-goal lead through the first three quarters before Hope finished the third on Sydney Laprairie's goal with nine seconds left and then scored the first four of the final period for a 16-11 lead. The Tigers countered with a pair of scores in a 41-second span, but Hope held on for the win.
Kate Leone led DePauw with four goals, while
Emerson Perea,
Bridget Driscoll,
Rosalie Tasker and
Mary Mason each scored two. Tasker totaled a team-high four assists.
Julia Brown's five goals led Hope with Stella Bottum finishing with three. Bottum and Kerrigan Brown had two assists apiece.
Niamh Callahan recorded 12 saves in goal for DePauw, while Samantha Smith had eight for Hope.
Driscoll led DePauw with 13 draw controls and shared the ground ball lead with
Kai Coffee,
Lucy Knerr and Callahan as each had three. Knerr caused a team-high turnovers.
Caleigh Randall paced Hope with nine draw controls and three caused turnovers with Randall and Kerrigan Brown each finishing with two ground balls.
Hope held a 36-23 edge in shots including 26-19 in shots on goal. DePauw led in ground balls, 20-13, while the Flying Dutch held an 18-15 advantage in draw controls.
DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, April 5, with a Noon game against Kenyon at Reavis Stadium.
