Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to an 8-0 first-quarter lead and never trailed on the way to an 18-3 win over visiting Illinois Wesleyan. The Tigers improved to 4-4, while the Titans dropped to 5-5.
Meredith Buti put the Tigers on the board just 2:19 into the contest before
Kate Leone followed with a pair in a 27-second span to make it 3-0 with 7:31 left in the first.
Kate Sullivan,
Emerson Perea, Leone,
Delana Underwood and
Mary Mason followed with opening-period scores to make it 8-0.
The Titans stopped the run with a pair of scores early in the second, but DePauw put the game away with nine straight.
Leone and Perea each scored four for the Tigers with
Bridget Driscoll and Mason adding three each. Driscoll had a team-high four assists. Three different Titans scored one goal each.
Niamh Callahan took the win in goal for the Tigers, while Lizzie Rymarcsuk had 13 saves for Illinois Wesleyan and Marli Brown totaled three.
Driscoll and Sullivan each had seven draw controls for the Tigers with Sullivan leading with four ground balls.
Caleigh Claar and
Corinne Nicholas each caused three turnovers in the win.
Sadie Newton paced the Titans with four draw controls with Sarah Riepe and Prissilla Tucker each totaling three ground balls. Newton, Riepe and Tucker caused two turnovers apiece.
DePauw held a 44-5 edge in shots including 26-2 in shots on goal. The Titans committed 31 turnovers to DePauw's 16 and the Tigers held a 24-17 advantage in ground balls and 19-6 in draw controls.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 29, when they host Hope at 1 p.m.
