Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw opened the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Franklin and both games went extra innings with the Grizzlies winning both by scores of 5-3 and 11-8. The Tigers dropped to 6-6, while the Grizzlies improved to 5-2.
In the opener, the teams were scoreless through three innings before
Madi Lockridge put the Tigers on the board with a single that scored
Kelsey Schneider. Franklin grabbed a 3-1 lead in the sixth as Hadley Fuhrman scored on an error on Eriana Wagner's sacrifice bunt. Molly Wallace followed with a sacrifice fly and Kendall Lowry delivered an RBI single.
Alex Romero-Salas homered in the sixth and
Callie Rheinheimer forced extra innings with a blast in the seventh.
Wallace's single in the eighth scored a pair to clinch the win for Franklin.
Romero-Salas and Rheinheimer each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Fuhrman, Wallace and Lowry each had two of Franklin's six.
Riley Depa dropped to 4-3, while Lauren Duncan improved to 3-1.
The nightcap started in much the same way as game one with neither team scoring through the first four frames. Olivia Stagl's solo homer in the fifth gave Franklin the lead, but Romero-Salas countered in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single before Ella Kunester's sacrifice fly scored
Evy Krueger and Rheinheimer's single brought home
Hanna Coffel to make it 4-1.
Wagner's three-run homer in the top of the sixth evened the score, but DePauw again regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as Romero-Salas singled home
Libby Minobe and Rheinheimer tripled scoring Romero-Salas and Kuenster.
The Grizzlies forced extra innings in the seventh as Wagner's double scored McKenna Lucas before Zoe Kugelman's sacrifice fly brought home Fuhrman and Karrsen Pruitt's single plated Wagner.
An error on Lucas' sacrifice bunt allowed Ruth Kaiser to score in the eighth before two scored when Fuhrman reached on an error. Wallace singled home Wagner to give the Grizzlies an 11-7 lead.
Macey Cox's single in the eighth brought home
Kendall Hynes but a double play ended the game.
Romero-Salas had three of DePauw's 13 hits, while Kuenster, Rheinheimer and Hynes each had two. Wagner had three of Franklin's 10 with Wallace and Pruitt following with two apiece.
Peyton Rohr dropped to 0-2 with the loss in relief of Romero-Salas, while Kylie Kadel improved to 1-0 with the relief win.
DePauw hosts Calvin in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 22.
