Davenport, Fla. - DePauw and Kalamazoo battled through a tight game for seven innings, but the Hornets scored three in the eighth and six in the ninth to take an 11-0 victory. The Tigers dropped to 6-9, while Kalamazoo improved to 10-2.
The teams were scoreless for the first two innings before Cade Preissing led off the Kalamazoo third with a double and later scored when Austin Keur hit into a double play. Cooper Mills led off the Hornets' fifth with a double and scored on Ryar Rinehart's double.
Caleb Moore doubled home Tanner Hawkins in the eighth and then scored on Logan Lockhart's single to make it 4-0 before Keur's singled plated Lockhart.
The Hornets blew the game open in the ninth with a two-run double by Lockhart, a two-run homer from Preissing and Rinehart's two-run single.
Grady Johnson and
Carter Knoll each had two of DePauw's six hits, while Keur, Rinehart and Lockhart each had three of Kalamazoo's 18 with Mills, Moore and Preissing following with tw each.
Charlie Hawk dropped to 0-2, while Jacob Davis improved to 3-1 with 13 strikeouts and no walks in the complete game win.
The Tigers face Ramapo in a 9 a.m. doubleheader tomorrow.
