Tigers Post 3-3 Record at Leadoff Classic after Sunday Split

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw finished with a 3-3 record at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic after splitting today's games. The Tigers defeated Alma, 8-1, before losing to top-ranked East Texas Baptist by an 11-5 score.

Ella Kuenster's first-inning double scored Kelsey Schneider before Katie Mathies drove in a pair with a triple.

Alma countered with a single run in the fourth before Hanna Coffel countered by stealing home as part of a double steal. Kuenster's fifth-inning homer made it 5-1, while Libby Minobe plated Riley Heim in the same frame with Madi Lockridge coming home after a failed pickoff at third.

Mathies wrapped up the DePauw scoring in the sixth with a double that scored Kelsey Schneider. Alma's lone run came in the sixth.

Kuenster and Mathies each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Jordyn Porter had two of the Scots' six hits.

Riley Depa moved to 2-2 with the relief win and Mikaylyn Kenney dropped to 2-2.

Schneider gave DePauw a 1-0 lead in the first against East Texas Baptist as she scored when Mathies reached on an error.

East Texas Baptist broke through for three in the third before DePauw regained the lead in the bottom of the third on Mathies' two-run double and Riley Heim's RBI double.

East Texas Baptist scored one in the fourth to even the score again before scoring one in the fifth and three in the sixth for an 8-4 lead. Schneider's single in the sixth plated Angelese Cruz, but ETBU added three in the seventh.

I chose DePauw because it stood out compared to all of the other campuses I went to. Between the people, the campus, the softball program and the community, it just felt like home. I knew after the first time I came to campus for a softball camp that DePauw was the one.
