DePauw Wraps up Weekend Series at Sewanee with a Loss

Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first at Sewanee, but the hosts scored four in the fourth and five in the fifth to gain control on the way to a 16-6 win in eight innings. DePauw dropped to 3-3, while Sewanee improved to 9-2.

Grady Johnson gave DePauw the lead in the first with a single that scored Aidan Howard before Carter Knoll drove in Max Bond with a ground out.

Sewanee's Will Jennewein hit a two-run homer in the fourth to even the score before Zach Fortman drove in Tyler Pinson with a single and Fortman later scored on a passed ball to give the hosts a 4-2 lead.

Pinson's single in the fifth plated Ethan Williams and Fortman tripled with the bases loaded to make it 8-2. Sebastian Leinberger wrapped up the scoring in the fifth with a sacrifice fly that scored Fortman.

Sewanee extended the lead to 11-2 with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before the Tigers struck for four in the eighth. Aidan Howard reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Drew Straub to score and Cooper Davis came home on a wild pitch. Johnson's grounder brought home Tyler Walkey before Knoll drove home Howard with a ground out.

Sewanee won the game with the run-rule in the bottom of the frame as Leinberger cleared the bases with a double and scored on Charlie Teel's single.

Johnson and Knoll each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Teel and Fortman each had three of Sewanee's 17. Leinberger, Williams, Jennewein, Pinson and John Bagwell finished with two apiece.
