Decatur, Ill. - DePauw wrapped up play at the Millikin Invitational II with a Sunday split after dropping the first game to 22nd-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a 5-4 score in nine innings and then defeating Hanoer, 9-1, in six innings. The Tigers moved to 6-4 with the split.
The Pointers jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Tigers in the opener with one in the second and three in the third, but DePauw came back with three in the sixth as
Libby Minobe scored on a stolen base and
Katie Mathies hit a two-run homer.Â
DePauw forced extra innings with a run in the seventh as
Madi Lockridge led off with a double before
Kelsey Schneider reached on an infield single.
Paige Brady's one-out sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and set up Minobe's run-scoring single.
Neither team scored in the eighth, but the Pointers won in the bottom of the ninth as Kaitlyn Roberts was placed on second to start the inning and moved to second on Rachel Baker's sacrifice bunt. Hailee Thompson then delivered a single that scored Roberts.Â
Minobe had two of DePauw's six hits, while Sawyer Holberg had three of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's 11. Baker and Jesse Klicker each had two.
Peyton Rohr dropped to 0-1, while Morgan Harwood improved to 3-0.
In the win over Hanover, Mathies drove in Minobe with singles in both the first and third innings to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.Â
Hanover cut the deficit in half in the fourth as Mal Fultz tripled scoring LauRie Harmless.
DePauw expanded the lead to 3-1 in the fifth as Brady reached on an error that allowed
Angelese Cruz to score.
The Tigers ended the game in the sixth due to the run rule after scoring six. Mia Spidel led off with a walk and moved to third on
Callie Rheinheimer's double. After
Riley Depa walked,
Alex Romero-Salas drove in two with a single.
Riley Heim's infield single loaded the bases and Mathies drove in Depa with a single before Paige came through with a two-run single and Speidel wrapped it up with a two-out single.
Mathies had four of DePauw's 13 hits with Minobe and Rheinheimer each collecting two. Four different Panthers had one hit apiece.
Depa improved to 4-2 with the complete game win, while Lulu Van Beek dropped to 1-3.
The Tigers return to action on March 15-16 at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Transylvania at the Elizabethtown Sports Park in Elizabethtown, Ky.
