Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw moved to 3-2 on the season after a doubleheader sweep at Sewanee by scores of 4-2 and 13-9 in 10 innings. The losses were the first of the season for Sewanee as it dropped to 8-2 on the season.
In the opener,
Charlie Hawk's two-run homer in the second gave the visiting Tigers a 2-0 lead before
Bryson Dorsey drove in
Louis Florida with a fourth-inning ground out.
Aidan Howard's seventh-inning single plated Hawk to make it 4-0.
Sewanee's two runs came on Bill Gantt's seventh-inning, two-run single which scored Blake Pou and Charlie Teel.
Hawk had two of DePauw's five hits, while Sebastian Leinberger had two of Sewanee's six.
Nate Tencza pitched all seven innings and allowed just six hits with four strikeouts and no walks to improve to 1-0. Taj Donald dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
In the nightcap, DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on Florida's two-run single before Sewanee cut the lead in half as Will Jennewein drew a bases loaded walk to score Leinberger.
Nate Hulen's two-run homer in the fourth pushed the DePauw lead to 4-1 before
Grady Johnson doubled home Howard in the fifth and then scored on
Carter Knoll's single to make it 6-1.
Sewanee put together a four-run fifth to cut the deficit to 6-5. Jennewein's single scored Pou and Tyler Pinson's fielder's choice brought home Teel before Alden Wright's single scored Pinson and Ethan Williams.Â
Sewanee took a 7-6 lead in the sixth as Williams singled home Teel and Pou.
DePauw regained the lead in the eighth as
Nolan Whitehead singled to center to score Florida and Johnson, but it was short-lived as Pinson tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with a triple that scored Jennewein and Wright delivered a sacrifice fly to score Pinson.
DePauw forced extra innings in the ninth as Johnson singled home Howard to tie the game at 9-9.
Hulen walked to lead off the 10th and stole second before Hawk singled and an error on the play allowed Hulen to advance to third. Whitehead's sacrifice fly to center score Hulen.Â
Jack Murray, who entered as a pinch-runner for Hawk, stole second and third and
Tyler Walkey walked. Walkey then stole second and Howard walked to load the bases.
Max Bond's sacrifice fly to left scored Murray before Johnson and Knoll each followed with RBI singles.
Giacomo Quinn, who entered in the ninth, pitched a perfect 10th to record his first win.
Johnson went 5-for-6 for the Tigers, while Knoll had three of DePauw's 15 hits. Howard and Florida each finished with two.
Williams and Jennewein collected two hits apiece as Sewanee totaled nine.
Quinn retired all four batters he faced in moving to 1-0, while Joey Crews took the loss and dropped to 1-1.
The teams square off in an 11 a.m. CST single game on Sunday.
