Columbus, Ohio - DePauw set the tone early with two goals in the first 2:21 on the way to an 18-15 win at Capital. The Tigers improved to 1-2, while the Comets dropped to 2-1.
Caleigh Claar and
Mary Mason scored to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0, but Capital came right back with a pair to even the score. The Tigers scored three straight in the final three minutes of the period to take a 5-2 lead.
The Comets scored three straight to tie the contest again before DePauw regained the lead and took an 11-9 advantage into the second half.
The teams exchanged scores to start the second half before Capital scored three consecutive to take its first lead of the game at 13-12 with 3:55 remaining in the third.
Rosalie Tasker,
Kate Leone and
Bridget Driscoll each scored to finish the third and give the Tigers a 15-13 lead.
Emerson Perea and Tasker scored in the fourth to push the lead to 17-13 with 5:00 left and secure the win.
Tasker led DePauw with five goals, while Perea and
Kate Sullivan each scored three. Tasker led with four assists and
Bridget Driscoll totaled three.
Grace Osborn led Capital with eight goals and Ava Vendetti assisted on four. Vendetti and Andi Henry each scored three.
DePauw's
Niamh Callahan totaled 11 saved in her first collegiate win, while Holly Stoner stopped four of the Tigers' shots.
Driscoll paced the Tigers with seven draw controls and five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Osborn led Capital with 12 draw controls and shared the team lead in caused turnovers with Henry as each had four. Avery Hart paced the squad with five ground balls.
Capital outshot DePauw, 37-26, and held a 24-21 edge in ground balls. The Comets also led in draw controls, 22-15.
DePauw hosts Otterbein on Sunday, March 2, at 1 p.m.
