Alliance, Ohio - Mount Union scored the game's first seven goals and never trailed on the way to a 22-9 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 0-2, while the Purple Raiders improved to 1-1.
The Purple Raiders scored seven in the opening 7:15 before DePauw countered with a pair by
Mary Mason and
Rosalie Tasker before the hosts wrapped up the opening period with a score to make it 8-2.
They stretched the lead to 12-2 before Mason stopped the run with 4:08 left in the half. The teams exchanged goals to finish the half with
Bridget Driscoll scoring with 12 seconds left in the half to close the gap to 13-4.
Driscoll and
Kate Leone opened the second half with scores to trim the deficit to 13-6, but that's as close as the Tigers got.
Tasker led DePauw with three goals, while Driscoll and Mason totaled two each. Driscoll led the Tigers with 11 draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Niamh Callahan recorded five saves in goal for the Tigers.
Ella Nejad paced Mount Union with eight goals, while Haylee Handrahan and Katie Clark had three each. Clark led the squad with eight assists. Eden Kesler finished with six draw controls and Abby Lindkvist had five ground balls. Lindkvist finished with eight saves.
Mount Union outshot DePauw, 36-19, and led in ground balls, 13-7. The Purple Raiders also held a 20-13 advantage in draw controls and committed 11 turnovers to the Tigers' 12.
DePauw travels to Capital on Wednesday, Feb. 26, for a 4 p.m. game.
