Billy Bach's buzzer-beating three at the end of regulation forced overtime and DePauw outscored Augustana, 20-10, in the extra session for a 95-85 road win. DePauw improved to 10-2 with its sixth straight win, while the Vikings dropped to 6-5.
DePauw took a 36-32 lead into the halftime and a tight second half ensued with six ties and nine lead changes. Augustana scored 11 straight late in the second half to turn a 67-61 deficit into a 72-67 lead. with 3:48 left in regulation.
Andre Klaver's two free throws with 19 seconds left gave the hosts a 73-70 advantage. After a timeout, the Tigers got the ball to
Reph Stevenson who was fouled with eight seconds remaining. Stevenson sank both charity tosses to cut the Augustana lead to 73-72.
The Vikings' Marieon Anderson made a pair of free throws with five seconds left to extend the lead back to three.
DePauw got the inbound pass to
Joe Smith who dribbled to midcourt and found Bach deep on the left wing in front of the DePauw bench for a catch-and-shoot trey which tied the contest at 75-75 and sent the contest to overtime.
Stevenson's bucket to start overtime was followed by
Caleb Washington's three-point play and gave DePauw an 80-75 advantage. Â
Augustana's first field goal of the extra session came at the 1:33 mark to trim DePauw's lead to 86-79, but the Tigers hit six straight from the line to make it 92-79 with 57 seconds remaining.
Six Tigers scored in double figures led by Stevenson's 19 which included 7-of-7 shooting from the field. Washington followed with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Smith and Bach each chipping in 13 as Bach established a career high with his. Kunka added 12 points and matched a career-high with 11 rebounds.
Andre Ozlowski's 12 points was also a career best. Washington, Kunka, Smith and Bach each dished out three assists.
Anderson paced Augustana with 21 points followed by Klaver's 20 and five assists. Cam Atkinson totaled 17 and Jake Willems added 11 and a team-high seven rebounds.Â
DePauw shot 47.5 percent from the field to Augustana's 46.7 percent and the Tigers knocked down 28-of-45 free throws including 14-of-17 in overtime.
The Tigers outrebounded the Vikings, 46-34, with 18 offensive rebounds for a 17-3 edge in second-chance points.Â
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 3, with a 3 p.m. game against John Carroll.
