Second-Half Surge Sends Denison to NCAC Win over Tigers

Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw led by as many as 11, but Denison outscored the Tigers, 40-25, in the second half on the way to a 59-52 win in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both schools. The Tigers dropped to 3-4, while the Big Red moved to 8-0.

The Tigers led most of the opening quarter and finished the period with a 15-10 lead. They expanded it to 11 with six straight as they held the Big Red scoreless over the first 4:38 of the second quarter. Denison closed the gap to four before DePauw closed the half with four straight for a 27-19 halftime lead.

Tori Allen's 3-pointer in the opening minute of the third extended the lead back to 11. DePauw still held a 9-point advantage at 33-24 after Campbell Schrank's bucket with 5:29 remaining in the third.

The Big Red scored the next 10 and took a 34-33 lead on Adelyn Moore's 3-pointer. The lead went back-and-forth in the early stages of the final quarter with the Tigers' last lead coming at 41-40 on Allen's basket with 6:54 left.

Ada Taute countered with a three before Abby Cooch converted a three-point play to push the lead to 46-41 with 6:23 remaining. DePauw got as close as two at 50-48 after Riley Mont's three with 2:19 left, but that was the Tigers' final field goal of the game. Cooch buried two free throws and knocked down a trey to push the lead back to 55-48 with 1:21 left. The Tigers got no closer than five the rest of the way.

Olivia Hart led DePauw with 13 points followed by Allen with 11 and Schrank with 10. Mont matched a career-high with 12 rebounds and Allen dished out four assists.

Cooch paced Denison with 19 points with Taute and Moore each scoring 10. Taute hauled down nine rebounds and totaled eight assists.

DePauw shot 33.3 percent to Denison's 30.2 percent, but the Big Red hit 9-of-31 3-pointers to DePauw's 4-of-13. The Tigers outrebounded Denison, 47-34, but the Big Red held a 13-10 lead in second-chance points. DePauw committed 22 turnovers, while the Big Red finished with just 11.

DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 16, with a 6 p.m. game at Albion.
