Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw moved its win streak to five and improved to 9-2 following a 78-66 win at Rose-Hulman. The Fightin' Engineers dropped to 6-4.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opening 2:41 and led by as many as 10 at 12-2. DePauw chipped away at the deficit and took its first lead of the contest at 18-17 after
Billy Bach's 3-pointer with 8:21 left in the half.
The Fightin' Engineers tied the contest a couple of times with the last coming at 21-21. DePauw closed the half on a 12-3 run to grab a 36-26 halftime lead.
Rose-Hulman scored the first four points of the second half to close the gap to six, but the Tigers eventually led by as many as 17 at 66-49 following a pair of
Reph Stevenson free throws with 6:49 left.
The hosts rattled off seven straight at the start of a 13-2 stretch to trim the deficit to six at 68-62 with just over three minutes remaining. DePauw, however, scored eight of the next 10 to seal the victory.
Sam Jacobs led DePauw with 20 points, five assists and four steals. He became the 30th player in program history to reach 1,000 points on a basket with 11:57 left in the first half.
Brady Kunka followed with 14, while Bach added 10. Kunka and
Joe Smith each grabbed five rebounds in the win and Andre Oslowski blocked six shots.
Daniel Savoic paced Rose-Hulman with 12 points, while Christian Torres and Cole Pride each scored 10. Torres and Pride hauled down six rebounds each with Joey Schmitz leading with five assists.
DePauw shot 56 percent from the field to Rose-Hulman's 37.3 percent and the Tigers held a 37-36 rebounding edge.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 30, with a 5:30 p.m. CST game at Augustana (Ill.).
