Nashville, Tenn. - DePauw shot 50 percent in the first half and built as much as a 21-point lead in the opening 20 minutes on the way to an 80-60 win over Simpson at the Music City Classic. The Tigers improved to 5-4, while the Storm dropped to 4-4.
In a back-and-forth opening quarter, DePauw's
Riley Mont scored 15 of her career-high 28 including a stretch of 10 straight to lead the Tigers to a 23-17 advantage at the quarter break.
DePauw, which had scored the final seven points of the first, extended its lead to 28-17 after scoring the first five of the second quarter.
The Storm closed the gap to seven before the Tigers put together a 17-3 run to take their largest lead of the half at 47-26 on the way to a 47-28 halftime lead. Simpson was no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
In addition to Mont's career-high 28,
Olivia Hart added a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds and
Diana Burgher hauled down 11 boards with
Tori Allen dishing out four assists.
Maddax DeVault paced Simpson with 21 points and four assists, while Doryn Paup scored 12 and grabbed six rebounds and Elle Street added 10 points.
The Tigers shot 45.7 percent from the field and hit 10-of-23 3-pointers, while the Storm connected on 40.4 percent and made 6-of-13 from beyond the arc.Â
DePauw committed 14 turnovers to Simpson's 17 and the Tigers held a 44-31 rebounding edge which led to a 20-4 margin in second-chance points.
The Tigers wrap up play in Nashville tomorrow with a 3 p.m. CST contest against Williams.
