Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw moved to 8-2 on the season and collected its fourth straight win after topping Illinois College, 95-78. The Blueboys dropped to 3-7.
Illinois College jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the opening four minutes, but a 7-2 DePauw run evened the score at 11-11. DePauw's lead was 24-23 before the Tigers scored eight straight to start a 12-2 stretch that pushed the margin to double digits. The Blueboys closed to within three before the Tigers scored the last seven points of the half for a 48-38 halftime advantage.
The Tigers stretched the lead to 21 in the opening seven minutes of the second half before Illinois College cut it back to 10 midway through the half with a 13-2 run. DePauw countered with a 15-2 stretch that extended the lead to 87-64 with 5:17 remaining.Â
Joe Smith notched a second consecutive career high with 26 points including 7-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.
Reph Stevenson followed with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Caleb Washington added 13, while
Sam Jacobs dished out three assists.
Seth Doss paced Illinois College with 14 points followed by Andrew Thomas with 13 and DeShawn Nolan with 10. Doss grabbed seven rebounds with Thomas and Ty Lenhardt each dishing out three assists.
DePauw shot 59.3 percent from the field and hit a season-high 11 3-pointers in 18 tries, while outrebounding Illinois College, 36-30. The Blueboys shot 46.3 percent from the field.
The Tigers travel to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Dec. 20, for a 2 p.m. contest.
