Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw held an eight-point lead midway through the fourth quarter against Transylvania, but the Pioneers closed the game on an 18-1 run to top the Tigers, 62-52, in the season opener for both squads.
The teams opened on a torrid pace with the Pioneers grabbing a 21-19 lead after the first quarter as the Tigers shot 69 percent from the floor with Transylvania connecting on 56 percent.
Transylvania led, 24-19, but a 9-2 run capped by
Riley Mont's 3-pointer gave the Tigers a 28-26 advantage midway through the second. DePauw held a 34-30 halftime lead.
The Tigers maintained the lead throughout the third and matched their largest lead of the contest at 51-43 after Mont's three-point play with 5:23 remaining in the contest. That was DePauw's last field goal as Transylvania scored the next 12 points and outscored the Tigers, 19-1, over the final 5:10.
Mont led the Tigers with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Diana Burgher followed with 12 points with
Olivia Hart totaling 11 and
Tori Allen 10.
Riley Flinn paced the Pioneers with 21 points and 16 rebounds with Sierra Kemelgor adding 15 points and Makay Grinter 14.
The Tigers shot 33.3 percent from the floor to Transylvania's 40.4 percent. DePauw held a 36-33 rebounding edge and each team had 15 turnovers.
DePauw travels to Wisconsin Lutheran for the Paul F. Knueppel Classic where it will open play against Wartburg on Friday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. CST.
