Tigers Top #14 Wartburg

Milwaukee, Wis. - DePauw used a 16-3 fourth-quarter run to turn a seven-point deficit into a six-point lead on the way to a 63-56 win over 14th-ranked Wartburg in the opening game of Wisconsin Lutheran's Paul F. Knueppel Classic. The Tigers improved to 1-1, while the Knights dropped to 1-2.

DePauw jumped out to a 24-12 lead early in the second quarter on the strength of 63 percent shooting from the field. The Knights, however, quickly shifted the momentum by going on a 17-2 run to take a 29-26 lead. Wartburg stretched the margin to four at the break at 35-31.

Wartburg's lead reached as many as seven points early in the third before the Tigers evened the score at 40-40. The Knights scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 45-40 lead.

The Knights pushed the lead back to seven at 47-40 in the opening 30 seconds of the fourth. They still led by seven at 49-42 with 7:01 remaining.before DePauw started its comeback.

Olivia Hart hit a jumper before Campbell Schrank and Tori Allen each hit a pair of free throws. Riley Mont converted a steal into a layup to cap an 8-0 stretch and give the Tigers a 50-49 lead with 4:35 left. 

Reagan Pagniano stopped the run with a three, but Hart came right back with a bucket to even the score at 52-52. Mont and Allen each knocked in two free throws after Tigers' defensive stops to push the lead to four. The Tigers hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 58 seconds to seal the victory.

Mont led the Tigers with 19 points, while Hart matched a career high with 16 points and Allen added 15. Mont and Bren Hill each grabbed eight rebounds and Mont totaled six steals.

Grace Hennessy led Wartburg with 13 points, while Lauren Golinghorst followed with 11 and Katie Boulanger added 10. Golinghurst and Hennessy each hauled down five rebounds and Emma Townsley dished out three assists.

DePauw shot 40.4 percent from the field to Wartburg's 34.0 percent and the Tigers outrebounded the Knights, 36-29.

The Tigers face 16th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST.
