Dubuque, Iowa - In a game that included 14 ties and 12 lead changes, DePauw held on for a 77-74 win over Loras at the Loras Tip-Off Classic. The Tigers moved to 1-1, while the Duhawks dropped to 0-1.
DePauw built an early 18-11 lead, but Loras closed the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 31-26 advantage into the intermission.
The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the second half before
Sam Jacobs buried a three with 3:12 to give DePauw a 69-67 lead. After a Loras turnover,
Reph Stevenson scored to push the lead to four. The teams traded baskets before a Stevenson layup extended DePauw's lead to 75-69 with 1:21 remaining.
Emmett Loew countered with a layup with 1:13 left and a DePauw turnover was followed by Jack Haynes' three-point play which cut the Tigers' lead to 75-74 with 33 seconds left.
Loew missed a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining and Stevenson hit one-of-two free throws trim the DePauw lead to 76-74. After a Loras turnover,
Brady Kunka hit one of two free throws to seal the win.
Jacobs led DePauw with 25 points, while Stevenson posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds and Kunka added 10 points.
Caleb Washington led the Tigers with four assists.
Loew paced Loras with 20 points and six steals, while Kyle Kober added 15 and Gavin Sarvis 10. Brock Massey had a team-high six rebounds with Haynes, Loew and Connor Mosele finishing with three assists each.
DePauw shot 57.4 percent from the field to Loras' 40.9 percent and the Tigers held a 36-28 rebounding edge. The Tigers committed 25 turnovers to the Duhawks' 13.
The Tigers host Anderson on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
