Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw wrapped up weekend play at the Midwest Challenge with a 64-60 win over 16th-ranked Wis.-La Crosse in the third-place game. DePauw improved to 3-3 with the win, while the Eagles slipped to 5-3.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but the Eagles closed the period on a 12-4 run to take a 14-12 lead.Â
Wis.-La Crosse extended the margin to five at 23-18 before DePauw regained the lead with a 7-1 stretch and took a 29-28 advantage into the intermission.
A back-and-forth third quarter ensued with the Eagles grabbing a 39-33 lead before the Tigers used a 9-2 run to take a 42-41 lead.
Tori Allen's bucket with four seconds left in the third put DePauw in front, 47-45.
DePauw scored the first six points of the fourth to take its largest lead at 53-45. The Eagles, however, scored the next seven to trim the deficit to 53-52 with 5:09 remaining.
Malia Nelson's free throw with 1:04 left put Wis.-La Crosse back in front, 57-56, but the Tigers hit all eight free throws in the closing minute while limiting the Eagles to just a three-pointer with eight seconds left.
Olivia Hart paced DePauw with 18 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Riley Mont followed with 15 with
Campbell Schrank totaling 11.
Diana Burgher grabbed nine rebounds and
Alina Prusko dished out three assists.
Ali Sprangers led Wis.-La Crosse with 17 points and four assists with Grace Knupp following with 11. Molly Janke hauled down eight rebounds in the loss.
DePauw shot 44.9 percent and held the Eagles to just 34.4 percent. The Tigers held a narrow, 37-36, rebounding edge.
The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference play when they host Denison on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.
