Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw shot just 24 percent from the floor and fell to 19th-ranked WashU by a 70-52 score in the opening game of the Midwest Challenge at Illinois Wesleyan. The Tigers dropped to 2-3, while the Bears improved to 5-1.
DePauw led briefly at 3-2, but WashU scored nine straight and never relinquished the lead. The Bears led, 17-7 after the first quarter and expanded it to 36-20 at halftime.
WashU built the lead to as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter before DePauw closed the game on a 13-3 run.
Riley Mont led DePauw with 11 points, while
Campbell Schrank totaled 10.
Olivia Hart grabbed eight rebounds with Mont and
Tori Allen each dishing out three assists.
Lexy Harris paced the Bears with 22 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots followed by Jordan Rich with 14 points. Catherine Goodwin handed out a team-high three assists.Â
DePauw shot 24.3 percent for the game to WashU's 43.3 percent, while the Bears held a 49-43 rebounding edge.Â
The Tigers face 16th-ranked Wis.-La Crosse tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST in the third-place game.
