Greencastle, Ind. - Led by
Reph Stevenson's fourth double-double of the season, DePauw improved to 4-1 with an 86-79 win over Franklin. The Grizzlies dropped to 3-2.
DePauw jumped out to an early 13-5 lead with an 8-0 run. but the Grizzlies came back to grab a 21-18 lead with 11:32 left in the first half.Â
Franklin still held a three-point advantage at 30-27, but DePauw scored nine straight to take the lead for good. After a 47-41 halftime lead, the Tigers gradually stretched the margin and took their largest lead at 78-63 following
Brady Kunka's layup with 5:44 left.
Franklin's press contributed to a 12-2 run that closed the gap to 80-75 with 4:08 left, but the Tigers held the Grizzlies scoreless over the next 3:22 while pushing the lead back to double digits.
Stevenson led DePauw with 26 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, while
Sam Jacobs added 20 points. Kunka chipped in 15 and
Joe Smith totaled 12 and dished out eight assists.
Jesse Faires led five Franklin double-figure scorers with 17 with Justin Harrington totaling 14 and Braylon Russell 11. Cooper Matthews and Dylan Beverly each finished with 10. Russell and Avery Saunders hauled down six rebounds each and Matthews led with five assists.
DePauw shot 54.9 percent from the field to Franklin's 42.9 percent and the Tigers held a 40-25 rebounding edge.
The Tigers host Elmhurst on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m.
