Reph Stevenson poured in a career-high 49 points and led DePauw to a 108-100 win at Greenville. The Tigers moved to 3-1 on the season, while the Panthers dropped to 1-3.
The first half featured eight ties and 11 lead changes with neither team holding more than a six-point advantage as the squads finished the opening 20 minutes tied, 54-54.
Greenville scored the first bucket of the second half and led for part of the opening three minutes of the second half before layups from Stevenson and
Sam Jacobs put the Tigers ahead for good.
DePauw gradually pulled away, but couldn't push the lead to double digits. The Panthers were within four before DePauw went on an 8-2 run to grab its largest lead at 100-90 with 3:26 left.
Greenville again trimmed the margin to four on a couple of occasions before the Tigers scored the game's final four points in the closing 53 seconds.
Stevenson's 49 points are the second-most by a DePauw player behind the 55 scored by Luke Lattner against Wabash (2/17/2016) and the most in a regulation game since Tom McCormick totaled 45 against Ball State (1/29/1969). Stevenson's 21 field goals made broke Lattner's record of 19 against Wabash (2/17/2016).
Vince Nixon dropped in a career-high 17, while Jacobs totaled 13 and
Brady Kunka 10. Stevenson led with 14 rebounds and Jacobs dished out a career-best eight assists.
Tim Lofton led Greenville with 18 points followed by Sheldon Grant II with 17. Joshua Williford, Elijah Goad and Tahj Comeaux each scored 11 and Brandon Tully followed with 10. Comeaux had a team-high eight rebounds with Newton Acevedo and Elliot Mobley each dishing out three assists.
DePauw shot 60.5 percent from the field to Greenville's 40 percent and the Tigers committed 25 turnovers to the Panthers' 12. DePauw held a 63-34 rebounding edge.
The Tigers host Franklin on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m.
