Milwaukee, Wis. - DePauw built an eight-point lead in the first half, but 16th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus outscored the Tigers, 26-13, in the third on the way to a 56-52 win over DePauw at the Paul F. Knueppel Classic. The Tigers dropped to 1-2, while the Golden Gusties improved to 1-1.
The Tigers scored the final four points of the opening quarter to take a 13-10 lead into the second. DePauw extended the lead to eight on a couple of occasions and took a 27-21 advantage into the halftime.
The lead reached seven at 31-24 after
Diana Burgher's bucket with 8:24 left in the third. Gustavus Adolphus put together a 7-1 run to close the gap to 32-31 before DePauw pushed it back to three.
Anna Goodman and Ella Peters hit back-to-back threes to give Gustavus Adolphus a 39-36 lead. The Golden Gusties scored the final six points of the third to extend their lead to 47-40.
Lily Huntzinger's free throw early in the fourth cut the deficit to six, but Gustavus Adolphus scored the next eight to take its largest lead of the game at 55-41 with 6:00 remaining.
The Tigers, however, scored the next 11 to close the gap to 55-52 with 49 seconds left. Gustavus Adolphus missed a pair of free throws with 27 seconds remaining, but the Tigers couldn't secure the rebound and Goodman hit one free throw with eight seconds left to extend the lead to four and seal the victory.
Campbell Schrank led DePauw with 13 points and
Bren Hill added 10 along with a team-high six rebounds.
Tori Allen dished out four assists.
Whitley Ronn led the Golden Gusties with 14 points followed by Goodman and Olivia Grouthaus with 11 each. Ella Peters grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and Goodman dished out seven assists.
DePauw shot 40.7 percent from the floor to Gustavus Adolphus' 43.1. Gustavus Adolphus hit 6-of-24 3-pointers, while the Tigers knocked in 1-of-12.
The Tigers travel to Millikin on Nov. 19 for a 5:30 p.m. CST game.
