Oberlin, Ohio - The DePauw men's soccer team clinched their first regular season NCAC title since beginning NCAC play in 2011 on Saturday, following a 1-0 win over Oberlin.
The Tigers' took to the pitch to secure their last regular season win of the season again the Oberlin Yeomen.
Harrison Engel scored the game winning goal in the 79th minute when
Sami Ahmed fed the ball to
AJ Hockstok at midfield for a long pass to Engel in the penalty box. Engel put the ball away with a header into the top right corner of the net to record the game winning goal for the Tigers. The goal is Engel's third of the season with seven points.
Oberlin struggled to equalize with less than 11-minutes remaining in regulation. The Tigers outshot Oberlin 13-8 and claimed corners 5-3.
Roman Girandola and Vance Borozinki were the recipients of the yellow cards, but despite leading in the cards the Tigers trailed in fouls.
DePauw moves to 10-2-5 (5-0-3) and holds onto first place in the NCAC while Oberlin falls to 4-13-2 (1-6-1).
DePauw's last regular season men's soccer conference championship was a shared championship in 2001 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) and their last outright regular season men's soccer championship was in 1997 when the program won the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference (ICAC) title.
The Tigers will move onto the NCAC Tournament Semifinals, hosting #4 Kenyon College at S. Page Cotton Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m for Game 1. The winner will move onto the finals Saturday to play against the winner of Game 2, #3 Wooster at #2 Denison. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game.
