DePauw Advances to NCAC Championship Off Late Game Winner from Sebastian Leon

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw defeated Kenyon 3-2 to get through to the NCAC Championship. DePauw moves to 11-2-5 (5-0-3) and Kenyon falls to 7-4-7 (3-2-3).

Julian Bell got the action started early, cashing in a great pass from Braden Murphey in the 1st minute for his fourth goal of the season. Murphey had an opportunity to give DePauw their second goal of the evening with a spinny, floater shot that found the woodwork. Kenyon equalized in the 14th minute off a goal from Jack Commanduer.

Kenyon would take a 2-1 lead when Emmett Brown scored in the 36th minute off of a defensive error from DePauw. Matthew Fogo equalized off of a penalty shot that found the bottom right corner just under the arm of the Kenyon keeper in the 38th minute to send the game to halftime,  deadlocked at 2-2.

The second half proved to be a defensive battle with both teams trading shot and possession. Sebastian Leon scored the game winner in the 65th minute after a set piece led to a scramble in front of the net as Harrison Engel's shot was deflected and found the head of Leon. Sam Ortner kept the Tigers ahead with a couple great saves late in the second half.

Cole Bubalo picked up an early yellow card in the 27th minute, but aided the defense with a couple important clearances in the final ten minutes. Kenyon picked up two yellow cards by way of Grant Blake in the 38th minute and Kevin Farina in the 65th. The two teams were equal in common fouls 8-8.

The match was an equal and spirited affair with Kenyon holding the lead in shots 11-8, corners 5-4, and saves 2-1. Where DePauw found their advantage was in shots on goal, 5-3. Kenyon also led in possession 56% to 44% and both teams enjoyed over 50% of their total team possession in the attacking half of the field.

Top seeded DePauw will take on second-seed Denison in the NCAC Championship Saturday, November 8th at 3 p.m. on S. Page Cotton Field at Reavis Stadium.
