Greencastle, Ind. - After winning the opening set against visiting John Carroll, DePauw dropped the final three as the Blue Streaks topped the Tigers 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23). DePauw slipped to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while John Carroll improved to 13-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
DePauw held a 15-13 lead in the opening set before scoring the next three and five of the next six to take a 20-14 lead. John Carroll pulled to within 22-17 before the Tigers closed the set with a 3-1 run.
Another tight set ensued in the second with eight ties and four lead changes. DePauw held a 21-18 lead, but the Blue Streaks scored five straight and seven of the final eight to even the match at 1-1.
John Carroll scored the first three points of the third and maintained the lead throughout to gain a 2-1 match advantage.
The fourth set featured 11 ties and four lead changes with DePauw holding a 23-21 lead, but the Blue Streaks closed the match with four straight kills to claim the win.
Madeline Ozersky paced DePauw with 12 kills followed by
Kaiden Harrington with 11 and
Belle Shelton 10.
Julia McWaters led the Tigers with 27 assists and
Kendall Herrick totaled two aces.
Grace Myers and
Addison Hooker each had 21 digs and
Jen Proeh finished with seven blocks.
Mary Kate Sheehan led John Carroll with 20 kills with Tess Humphrey finishing with 28 assist. Kendra Dziubinski and Natalie Glowe had two aces each, while Olivia Mogyordy recording 22 digs and Kallan Hrics six blocks.
The Blue Streaks outhit the Tigers, .193-.167 and held a narrow 56-55 edge in kills. DePauw led in blocks, 13-8.
DePauw hosts Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
