Box Score Greencastle Ind. - Braden Murphey's fifth goal of the season led DePauw to a draw with Kenyon on Senior Day. DePauw moves to 9-2-5 (4-0-3) and holds onto first place in the NCAC while Kenyon falls to 5-3-7 (1-2-3).
Braden Murphey got the Tigers on the board first with a low driven shot that took a slight deflection off a Kenyon defender in the 29th minute. Harrison Engel was credited with the assist, giving him his first of the season. The goal is Murphey's fifth making him DePauw's leader in goals (5) and points (12).
Kenyon would equalize early in the second half. Isaac Cortez capitalized on a passing mistake in the defensive third and drove a shot home in the 46th. The two teams would lock into a defensive affair highlighted by quality goalkeeping for the rest of the match. Sam Ortner recorded eight saves on the day and Kenyon goalie Dominic Pratt had four.
DePauw picked up three yellow cards in the first half with one being issued to Vance Borozinski and two to the coaching staff. Three more yellow cards were handed out in the second half, two to the Tigers and one to the Owls. Braden Murphey and Sebastian Leon were the recipients of the second half cards. Despite the 5-1 difference in yellow cards, DePauw led in the foul department only committing nine to Kenyon's 17.
DePauw outshot Kenyon 15-14 but the Owls held the edge in shots on target with nine to DePauw's five. Kenyon also held the edge in corner kicks 5-2.
The Tigers have secured a position in the NCAC playoffs but are still battling for the #1 overall seed with Wooster. DePauw has one more match before the playoffs as they travel to Oberlin on Saturday, November 1st to take on the Yeomen at 12 p.m.
