Lexington, Ken. - The DePauw Tigers shut down Transylvania 10-1 on the road in Kentucky, Wednesday afternoon.
Seven different Tigers helped tally goals, with Hailey Nowak recording a hat trick in the 42nd minute.
Maggie Volpe netted the first goal of the game after the Tigers' reclaimed the ball after drawing a foul. Ellie Lochhead collected a misfired pass, dribbling through defenders before passing from the right side of the penalty circle to Volpe on the left side who dodged a defender before slotting the ball to the left side of the goalie.
Nowak scored her first of the evening after dribbling down the field from a breakaway at midfield, turning on a defender and spinning to the right to slot in the ball for a goal at 4:30.
The Tigers' took a breather offensively, before capitalizing on a penalty corner at 13:51. Volpe chipped the ball through traffic for Nowak to put away during a scramble in front of the cage.
Heading into the second quarter with a 3-0 advantage, the Tigers continued to maintain their offensive attack and tally another point before halftime. Volpe made a shot, swinging high towards the cage and ricocheting back into play. Freshman Rose Ondrla found purchase during a scramble for control in front of the cage, knocking the ball through defenders legs for the Tigers' fourth of the evening.
After halftime the Tigers' advanced on Transylvania's cage and Ella Mickey passed the ball to Volpe for a clean sweep into the middle of the net. Nowak logged her third goal of the evening off a penalty corner stroke from Ella Morris, delivering a clean stroke from the left outer ring of the penalty circle.
At the end of the third quarter, Sophie Schirmacher made a breakaway at midfield, dodged defenders to near the penalty circle before faking out the goalie and passing to Ashley Appleby on the far left side of the circle. Appleby slotted the shot to the left of the goalie's legs, finding the far right corner of the net.
With a 7-0 lead, the Tigers netted two more goals within 22-seconds. Volpe dribbled the ball close to the cage before passing the ball back to Ondrla at the back of the circle for a swift forestick swing that found purchase in the back of the net. DePauw claimed possession after the face off, drawing a penalty corner and putting the ball away by Helen Harpenau for her first goal of the season.
With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Hannah Zaiser capitalized on a scramble at the cage, persisting for her first goal of the game to finish out scoring for the Tigers'.
The Tigers' will wrap up regulation season play on Saturday, October 25th on the road at Kenyon. DePauw is currently first in the conference with a 11-4 overall record and 7-1 in the NCAC. Denison ties the Tigers' conference record but trails with 9-6 in overall play.
