Engel Scores Brace to Ensure 3-2 Win Against Wittenberg

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw remains unbeaten in NCAC play with a 3-2 defeat of Wittenberg at Reavis Stadium, Tuesday night. DePauw moves to 9-2-4 (4-0-2) and retains possession of first place in the conference while. Wittenberg falls to 7-4-5 (0-4-2).

DePauw came out racing and took a one goal lead in the first thanks to Harrison Engel. Engel cleaned up a missed shot by Cole Bubalo with a crafty two touch finish into the bottom right corner in the 4th minute. The two teams would continue a high intensity, back and forth contest until Roman Girandola took a composed strike off of a failed Wittenberg clearance to stretch the lead to two in the 43rd minute.. DePauw would go into the half up 2-1 after a Wittenberg penalty shot was converted by Christopher Meyer in the 45th minute.

In the second half, Engel would score his brace after slotting a shot into the low left corner off of a corner kick from AJ Hockstok in the 53rd minute. Wittenberg would cut the lead back down to one off a header from Asher Donahue in the 71st minute. Goalkeeper Sam Ortner kept DePauw a head with a huge save in the 80th minute on a volley shot from Wittenberg's Brendon Raggiunti.

Hockstok's assist was his fourth of the season, making him DePauw's leader in assists. Engel's two goals brought his tally to three, tying him for second on the team with four other Tigers.

DePauw showcased a high powered offense outshooting Wittenberg 15-8, with a difference of 7-4 in shots on target. Wittenberg bested DePauw in saves 4-2 and corners 5-3. DePauw held a slight edge in possession with 52% to Wittenberg's 48%. Wittenberg picked up 16 fouls and 2 yellow cards.

DePauw only has two more matches remaining in the regular season. The first is at Reavis Stadium on Saturday, October 25 at 12 p.m. for Senior Day against Kenyon. The Tigers close out the season on the road at Oberlin on Saturday, November 1 at 12 p.m.
