Springfield, Ohio - DePauw closed its North Coast Athletic Conference game at Wittenberg with an 18-4 run and topped the hosts, 57-49. DePauw improved to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC with its third straight win, while Wittenberg dropped to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Wittenberg held DePauw scoreless over the final 3:50 of the first half and scored the final five points to take a 28-21 lead at the intermission.
The hosts gained their largest lead of the game at 37-27 on Cameron Harrison's 3-pointer with 14:51 left. A 12-4 DePauw run trimmed the Wittenberg lead to 41-39. Wittenberg scored on back-to-back possessions to stretch the margin to six with 7:16 remaining.
Kyle Lillwitz countered with a three before
Eli Ellis connected on four free throws to put the Tigers ahead, 46-45, with 3:55 left. Ellis' steal led to
Reph Stevenson's basket to give DePauw a 48-45 advantage. Stevenson added two free throws with 2:23 left to make it 50-45 and cap the 8-0 DePauw run.
Wittenberg's Eddie Brown stopped the run, but Andre Oslowski and Stevenson scored to extend the lead to 54-47 with 37 seconds remaining.
Harrison's countered with a layup, but
Brady Kunka knocked in a free throw before Ellis hit a pair with 13 seconds left to wrap up the scoring.
Stevenson paced DePauw with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Ellis added three assists.
Brown finished with 12 points and shared the rebounding lead with Cal Bavineau as each totaled five. Brown and Bavineau finished with three assists apiece.
DePauw shot 38.9 percent from the field to Wittenberg's 37.5 percent and the guests outscored the hosts from the line, 13-2. DePauw held a 38-26 rebounding edge and grabbed 12 on the offensive glass for a 17-2 lead in second-chance points.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they host Oberlin in a 1 p.m. NCAC contest.
