Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DePauw Falls 1-0 to Wheaton College on the Road

Wheaton, Ill. - The DePauw women's soccer team fell to Wheaton College, 1-0 on the road, following a late goal by the Thunder. The Tigers are now 4-4-1 for the season, while the Thunder improved to 3-5.

In a fast-paced game, the Tigers were forced to play on the defensive for the majority of their matchup against the Thunder. In the first half, Wheaton outshot DePauw 11-6. However, the two teams traded corner kick opportunities throughout the game, finishing the night tied 6-6.

After a scoreless first half, the Thunder continued to dominate on offense, getting off ten more shots in the second half. Its intensity around the box paid off in the 84th minute when Wheaton's Grace Crowder tapped in a pass from Katherine Ashley following a free-kick attempt to give a late 1-0 lead over DePauw. Unfortunately for the Tigers, back-to-back corner kicks weren't enough to find the equalizer.

Wheaton finished the afternoon outshooting DePauw 21-11, with ten shots on target, in comparison to the Tigers four shots on target. Time was split between Aubree Empie and Taylor Beard, with Empie tallying five saves and Beard recording three. The Thunders' Elizabeth Netz recorded four saves for the afternoon.

The Tigers' next game is Tuesday, September 24, at Reavis Stadium against St. Mary-of-the-Woods. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. EDT.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
