Tigers Shutout Quakers 5-0 on the Road

Box Score Richmond, Ind.- Extending its win streak to three, the DePauw field hockey team defeated Earlham College 5-0 on the road in its first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest. The Tigers improve to 3-3 for the season and 1-0 in NCAC play, while the Quakers drop to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
 
From the start, DePauw controlled the tempo of the game, scoring at least one goal in every quarter except the third quarter. Five different Tigers scored in this evening's shutout win over the Quakers, and three different players recorded assists on three of the goals. 
 
Scoring her fourth goal of the season and second game-winner for 2024, Alexandra May put DePauw up 1-0 at the ten-minute mark. Hailey Nowak would double the Tigers' lead after gathering a pass from Maggie Volpe, giving DePauw a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
 
Though the Quakers kept the Tigers scoreless in the third quarter, DePauw quickly made up for its lack of scoring in the fourth quarter with three goals scored in six minutes. In the 51st minute, Ella Harms scored her first career goal, and in the 54th minute, Ellie Lochhead found Amy Apfelbaum for goal number four. DePauw's final goal of the night came with less than three minutes remaining following a corner attempt. Harms snuck a ball to Lochhead to put the Tigers up 5-0.
 
DePauw outshot the Earlham 12-1 and held a 12-1 edge over the Quakers in corners. All three Tiger goalkeepers, Bella Lauber, Scarlett Oaks, and Olivia Streifel, spent time in the cage, with Lauber tallying one save for the night. In the cage for Earlham was Ainsley Kemp, who finished the evening with seven saves.
 
The Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., this Saturday, September 21, for Family Weekend. DePauw will take on Rhodes at Reavis Stadium at 12 p.m.
