Greencastle, Ind. - An early goal from Helen Harpenau kept DePauw in the fight, but the team could never equalize as it lost, 3-1, to the Maryville University Saints (NCAA DII) on Tuesday afternoon.
DePauw challenged the first goal scored by the Saints early in the second quarter at 18:55.
The Tigers (8-3, 6-0 NCAC) were unable to get into the flow of their offense until the second quarter when junior defender Helen Harpenau took advantage of a scramble in front of the cage to score the Tigers' only goal of the game with less than a minute left in the first half. This was Harpenau's second goal of the season.
Three of the Tigers four shots were taken during the first half. Rosie Ondrla, Liza Flower, and Sydney Commo each tallied one shot.
Maryville scored two goals in the second half, within five minutes of play.
The Saints edged the Tigers in penalty corners, 7-1 and overall shots, 9-4.
DePauw will look to regroup before returning to conference play on Saturday when they are on the road against Wooster at 12:00 p.m.
