Danville, Ky.- The DePauw men's soccer team lost to Centre College 2-1 on the road to wrap its weekend of play. The Tigers moved to 3-2-1 for the season, while the Colonels improved to 6-0-1.
In its matchup against Centre, DePauw struck first just 11 minutes into the first half, when sophomore Matthew Fogo buried a shot into the back of the Colonels net to put the Tigers up 1-0. Throughout the first half DePauw held a 7-1 advantage in shots, and earned four corners, while giving up none in its defensive end.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Centre found its groove in the second half and went shot-for-shot with DePauw, putting up six shots, with four shots on goal. With their looks on goal putting pressure on the backline, the Colonels eventually knotted the game up at one in the 53rd minute and scored again just two minutes later to take the lead.
With over 35 minutes left in regulation, the Tigers fought for position to strike back, but their efforts were only able to keep the Colonels from extending their lead. In goal for the Tigers, Sam Ortner finished the afternoon with two saves, while Centre's goalkeeper Brendan Egan tallied five.
The Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., for Family Weekend and host Capital University on Saturday, September 21, at 2:30 p.m.
