Rock Island, Ill. - DePauw extended its win streak to four after taking a five-set win over Augustana by a 3-2 (8-25, 25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 15-8) score. The Tigers moved to 7-3 on the season, while the Vikings dropped to 3-5.
The Tigers got out to a 4-2 lead in the opening set before Augustana scored 10 straight. The Vikings closed the set with a 7-0 run to take the early match lead. In the second set DePauw trailed, 13-8, before scoring the next 10 and 17 of the final 19 to even the score at 1-1.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle early. DePauw evened the score at 18-18 with a 6-0 stretch, but Augustana regained the lead and reached set point at 24-21 before DePauw fought it off with five straight points capped by
Kaiden Harrington's set-winning kill.
The fourth set included eight ties and four lead changes before Augustana scored the final two points to break a 23-23 deadlock. The Tigers opened the fifth set with three straight points and extended the lead to 9-2. Augustana scored five of the next seven to close the gap to 11-7, but the Tigers scored four of the final five to wrap up the win.
Ashley Haas paced the Tigers with 18 kills and hit .586 for the match, while
Kendall Herrick led with 23 assists.
Belle Shelton served two of DePauw's three aces with
Grace Myers recording 21 digs.
Emily Schipper paced Augustana with 19 kills and Kylie Collachia totaled 34 assists. Leah Rizzo had three of the Vikings' seven aces and led with 17 digs. Carmela Carbone totaled four blocks.
DePauw led in kills, 56-52, and in digs, 74-68. Augustana totaled five blocks to the Tigers' 2. The Tigers outhit the Vikings, .163-.158.
Olivia Karwin and Haas were named to the all-tournament team.
The Tigers return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Rose-Hulman.
