Winchester, Va.- The DePauw field hockey team wrapped its opening weekend play with a 3-1 loss to the No. 20 Shenandoah Hornets. The Tigers drop to 0-2 for the season, while the Hornets improved to 1-1.

Shenandoah struck early, finding the back of DePauw's cage in the fifth minute of the first quarter. The Hornets would extend its lead following back-to-back goals in the second quarter, giving them a 3-0 cushion heading into halftime.Â

Down by three goals, the Tigers were still in the game and kept the Hornets at bay despite facing nine shots and two penalty corners, thanks to the seven saves recorded by

Scarlett Oaks and Lauber split time in goal, with Oaks finishing the afternoon with seven saves in the first half and Lauber finishing with eight. Shenandoah's Taylor Swann tallied two saves for the afternoon.

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, September 5. DePauw will host Maryville (Mo.) in Reavis Stadium for its home opener at 6:30 p.m.
