Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw closed the first set on a 15-4 run and never trailed in the final two on the way to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-21) win over visiting Capital in the opening match of the DePauw Invitational.

The lead went back-and-forth over the early stages of the opening set before Capital rattled off three straight points to take a 12-10 lead. DePauw scored the next six to take the lead for good. In the second set, the Tigers jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never trailed to take a 2-0 match lead. In the final set the teams were even at 8-8 before DePauw scored five straight and nine of the next 11 to take control.
Katie Gansle led the Tigers with seven kills and added 10 digs, while
Kendall Herrick recorded a team-high 14 assists and
Olivia Karwin added 12. Herrick also paced DePauw with four of the team's 11 service aces. Gansle and
Ashley Haas each finished with two block assists.
Larissa Smith and Simone Daniel each totaled six kills and Bryn Whitmer finished with 18 assists. Sophia Sobota led the way with two aces and Abby Brunner had 17 digs.
DePauw outhit the Comets, .233-.118 and held a 31-29 edge in kills. The Tigers led in aces, 11-5 as well as digs, 45-40.
The Tigers host Spalding tomorrow at 11 a.m. and Wheaton at 1:30 p.m.
