Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw concluded its own invitational and moved to 2-1 on the season with a split of its Saturday matches as the Tigers opened with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-7, 25-17) win over Spalding before Wheaton topped the hosts 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21).
In the Spalding match, the Tigers outhit the Golden Eagles, .398-.018, and committed just four attack errors in gaining the 3-set victory. DePauw trailed only briefly after the first two points of the third set.
Kenzie Myers paced DePauw with eight kills, while
Kendall Herrick had 15 assists and
Olivia Karwin totaled 13.
Grace Myers led the defensive effort with 15 digs and
Jen Proeh had three blocks.
Jayda Branch led Spalding with nine kills, while Ella Clark had 20 assists, two aces and one block. Branch had a team-high 11 digs.
DePauw held a 42-25 lead in kills and 4-2 in aces. The Tigers also led in blocks, 5-1, and in digs, 48-43.
Against Wheaton, the Tigers scored eight straight in the opening set to take a 14-5 lead, but the Thunder scored seven of the final eight for the set win. In the second set Wheaton scored six straight to gain an 18-12 advantage. The Tigers closed to within four at 21-17 before Wheaton scored the final four points. In a tight final set, DePauw held a 19-18 advantage before Wheaton scored three straight and eight of the final 10 for the match win.
Kaiden Harrington led the Tigers with 12 kills, while Herrick had 13 assists and Karwin 12. Herrick recorded three aces with Karwin totaling three blocks and
Grace Myers 13 digs.
Caroline Capps led Wheaton with 18 kills with Lacey Higgins totaling 24 assists. Emerson Traweek and Katherin Adkison each finished with three aces, while Grace Autry totaled 11 digs. Sydney Overweg and Ashton Major each finished with three aces.
Wheaton held a 41-31 edge in kills and 9-3 in aces. The Thunder also led in blocks, 6-5, and digs, 51-48.
