Louis Florida led off the game with a homer, but second-ranked Denison countered with four in the bottom of the first which propelled the Big Red to a 10-2 win over the Tigers on the opening day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers face Kenyon in tomorrow's 1:30 p.m.elmination game after the Owls lost to Wittenberg, 6-2.
Florida sent the second pitch of the game over the right field fence to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.Â
Denison took a 4-1 advantage after the first four Big Red batters stepped to the pate as Eric Colaco and Jake Welsch each hit two-run homers.
Erik Sundgren's single in the third brought home Noah Leib to give the Big Red a 5-1 lead.Â
Hunter Hrbek closed the gap to 5-2 when he doubled home
Danny Glimco in the top of the fourth after Glimco led off the inning with a single.
Cade Nowik's leadoff homer in the fourth extended the Denison lead to 6-2 before Leib's two-run homer in the frame made it 8-2. Colaco's two-run homer in the sixth wrapped up the scoring.
Carter Knoll had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Florida added two. Colaco and Leib each had three of Denison's 14 hits with Sundgren, Nowik and Alex Vasquez each finishing with two.
Michael Vallone suffered his first loss of the year in dropping to 7-1, while Michael Gray improved to 3-0 with the relief win.
