Chillicothe, Ohio - Kenyon grabbed a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and DePauw was unable to catch the Owls and bowed out of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 10-2 loss. The Tigers finished their season at 23-17, while Kenyon moved to 22-16 and faces Denison in an elimination game tonight.
The first two Kenyon batters of the game reached base and Luke Meister drove in Nate Rosen with a single before Malcolm Gaynor scored a pair with a base hit and later scored on Parker Gibbons' triple.
DePauw's
Louis Florida countered in the bottom of the first with a solo homer, but Ben Nash's single in the fourth scored Rose and Gibbons plated Gaynor in the fifth with a grounder to make it 6-1.
DePauw's other run came in the sixth when
Hunter Hrbek scored on a passed ball after singling, stealing second and moving to third on a fly out.
Gaynor's seventh-inning single scored Nash to make it 7-2. The Owls added three more in the ninth as Tyler Nee's sacrifice fly scored Ben Zimmerman and Rosen's double brought home Gibbons and Stephen Carr.
Cameron Macon and
Drew Straub each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Rosen, Nash and Gaynor each had three of Kenyon's 16. Gibbons added two hits in the win.
Nate Tenzca dropped to 3-4, while Theo Canning improved to 5-1.
