DePauw Splits Doubleheader at Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio - DePauw topped Wittenberg, 13-3, in the opening game of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wittenberg, but the hosts came back for a 15-0 win in seven innings in the nightcap to earn the split. DePauw moved to 21-14 overall and 10-4 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg is 22-15 overall and 11-3 in conference play.

The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening frame of game one as Hunter Hrbek singled home Louis Florida.

Wittenberg came back in the third as Matt Moore doubled in Alex Nemunaitis and Xander Rodriguez and Parker Gryskevich drove in Moore with a double to make it 3-1.

DePauw responded in the top of the third with Florida's RBI double that scored Cameron Macon before Hrbek and Carter Knoll each drove in one with singles. Ty Sucher's fly out brought home Hrbek to push the lead to 5-3. Hrbek's three-run homer in the seventh extended the lead to 8-3 and Aidan Howard reached on an error that allowed two more to score.

DePauw wrapped up the scoring in the ninth as Max Bond doubled home Knoll and Florida reached on an error with two scoring on the play.

Hrbek and Knoll each had three of DePauw's 13 hits with Hrbek driving in five, while Conor O'Malley, Rodriguez and Moore each had two of Wittenberg's nine hits.

Nate Tencza moved to 3-3, while Mikey Eickhoff dropped to 3-3.

The second game was scoreless until Wittenberg scored three in the third, seven in the fourth and five in the fifth for the win.

Four different Tigers collected one hit each while six Wittenberg players had two hits each as the hosts totaled 13.

Griffin Albright dropped to 3-2, while Joe Horoszko improved to 4-1.

The Tigers travel to West Lafayette tomorrow for a 6 p.m. contest against Purdue.
