Greencastle, Ind.- In front of a roaring crowd of family and alumna, the DePauw women's lacrosse team held off a persistent College of Wooster offense, beating the Fighting Scots 17-14. The Tigers' Senior Day win moves them to 7-5 for the season and 2-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while Wooster falls to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
DePauw asserted its offense early, scoring three goals from three assists in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the College of Wooster cut the Tigers' lead by half with a quick goal at the start of the second quarter. Despite giving up four goals to the Fighting Scots, DePauw pushed the pace of the game and found the back of Wooster's net five more times to put the Tigers up 8-4 at the half.
In the second half, Wooster came out with energy, scoring the second half's first goal and going almost shot-for-shot in the third quarter. Fortunately for DePauw, a strong defensive presence in and around the striking circle kept Wooster's attack at bay and ultimately stifled any chance of a comeback.
