Crawfordsville, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening period and never trailed on the way to an 11-9 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Wabash. The Tigers moved to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC, while the Little Giants dropped to 8-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The eight wins matches the DePauw program record set in 2017.
The game was scoreless for the first 9:51 until
Connor Gibson scored with 5:09 left in the stanza and again with 2:12 remaining.
Beckett Tasker made it 3-0 before Wabash's Jake Pippen got his team on the board with just 12 seconds left in the quarter.
Each team scored twice in the second period with
Jack Flynn scoring both for the Tigers as DePauw went into the intermission with a 5-3 advantage. Flynn's goal early in the third pushed the lead to 6-3, but the Little Giants were within one at 6-5 and 7-6 before Flynn and Gibson scored early in the fourth to make it 9-6 with 11:50 left in the contest. Wabash countered just 43 seconds later before Flynn scored with 9:28 remaining to make it 10-7. Wabash's Christian Dybedock closed the gap to 10-8 at the 3:57 mark, but Tasker sealed the win with 3:11 remaining.
Flynn finished with five goals, while Gibson added three to bring his career total to 97 which tied the program record for career goals held by Steen Jorgensen (2016-19).
Henry White assisted on four of the scores.
Anthony Reinhardt had 11 saves in goal for DePauw.
Dybedock led Wabash with three goals and Sam Santiago followed with two. Quinn Fitzgerald and Artie Rogers each had two assists. Colin Krekeler totaled seven saves for Wabash.
Matthew Garrigan and
Matthew Roman paced DePauw with five ground balls each as Roman won 11-of-22 faceoffs. Garrigan and
Charlie Rodriguez each caused two turnovers.
Luka DiFilippo won 11-of-19 faceoffs and totaled 10 ground balls for the Little Giants.
DePauw outshot Wabash, 39-36, with Wabash holding a 20-18 edge in shots on goal. The Tigers committed 19 turnovers to Wabash's 16 and DePauw led in ground balls, 31-26. Wabash won 13 of the 24 faceoffs.
The Tigers host Kenyon on Saturday, April 20, at Noon.
