Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw moved to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a doubleheader sweep over visiting Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 7-3 and 13-3. The Battling Bishops dropped to 13-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
In the opener, the Tigers scored five in the second and two in the fifth and never trailed. The Battling Bishops reached the board in the eighth with a pair or runs before scoring once in the ninth.
Louis Florida and
Grady Johnson each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Michael Malone had two of Ohio Wesleyan's six hits.
Michael Vallone improved to 5-0 after allowing just a bloop double in six innings of work with five strikeouts and one walk. Hank Holman dropped to 2-1.
In the nightcap, DePauw grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on
Louis Florida's solo homer and then added two in the fifth and five in the sixth for an 8-0 lead. Ohio Wesleyan crossed the plate for the first time with a three-run seventh.
Carter Knoll drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth before
Max Bond ended the game with the run rule after blasting a grand slam for his first collegiate homer.
Johnson,
Ty Sucher and
Hunter Hrbek each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while Zane Vitense had three of Ohio Wesleyan's seven and Sammy Stoner added two.
Pearse Riendeau moved to 3-1 after pitching six scoreless innings and allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts. Robert Martin dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
DePauw hosts Rose-Hulman tomorrow in a Noon single game.
