Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the fourth before DePauw chipped away at the lead but fell short in a 16-8 win for the Fightin' Engineers. The Tigers moved to 14-10, while Rose-Hulman improved to 17-11.
Rose-Hulman took a 3-0 lead in the first on Colter Couillard-Rodak's RBI double and Dalton Busboom's two-run homer. The Engineers sent 12 batters to the plate in the third and scored eight for an 11-0 lead and then tacked on four in the fourth.
DePauw's first runs came in the fifth on run-scoring singles from
Grady Johnson and
Danny Glimco.
Charlie Hawk's RBI single in the sixth closed the gap to 15-3.
Rose-Hulman was within one strike of ending the game in the seventh due to the 10-run rule, but the Tigers kept the game going as
Chase Stratman drew a bases loaded walk and
Nate Heflin followed with a grand slam for his first collegiate homer to close the gap to 15-8. The Engineeers added the game's final run in the ninth.
Danny Glimco led DePauw with three of its 12 hits, while
Brennan Roach followed with two. Rose-Hulman banged out 19 hits as Peter Rogers led the way with four and Kade Kline added three.
Brady Strawmyer improved to 2-1 with the win, while
Matt Ritter dropped to 0-1.
The Tigers travel to Denison on Wednesday, April 17, for a Noon NCAC doubleheader.
