Lexington, Ky. - After trailing 2-1 in the opening period, DePauw scored eight straight goals and pulled away from host Transylvania in a 20-9 victory. The Tigers moved to 3-0, while the Pioneers dropped to 1-4.
Graesen Campbell gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead just 2:20 into the contest before Transylvania countered 2:06 later with a score from Sophia Sparks. Linley Dawson put the hosts ahead with a goal at the 4:55 mark of the first.
The Tigers, however, countered with a pair of
Kate Leone goals in a 36-second stretch before
Caleigh Claar scored in the final minute of the period to make it 4-2.
Campbell,
Meredith Buti, Claar,
Delana Underwood and
Bridget Driscoll pushed the Tigers' lead to 9-2 and the Tigers went to the intermission with a 10-4 advantage.
The teams exchanged goals to start the third, but DePauw rattled off three straight to extend the lead to 14-5. Transylvania closed to within eight early in the fourth but the Tigers sealed the win by scoring four of the next five.
Campbell led DePauw with seven goals with Driscoll and Leone each scoring three. Driscoll and
Marley Heitman assisted on two each. Charlotte Green scored three for Transylvania and Linley Dawson added a pair.
Lydia Hollis recorded 12 saves for DePauw with Jana Carlisle finishing with 13 for the Pioneers.
Driscoll led with 11 draw controls and three caused turnovers and shared the team lead with
Quinn Tegenkamp as each had three ground balls.
Green paced Transylvania with seven draw controls, three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
DePauw outshot Transylvania, 41-31, including 33-21 on goal. The Tigers committed 18 turnovers to the Pioneers' 19 and DePauw held an 18-13 lead in draw controls. The Pioneers led in ground balls, 27-16.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 16, with a 4 p.m. game at Otterbein.
