Westerville, Ohio - DePauw held a narrow, 9-8, lead over host Otterbein with just under five minutes left in the third period but the Tigers closed the contest with eight straight goals including four in a 2:49 stretch in the third for a 17-8 victory. The Tigers moved to 4-0, while the Cardinals dropped to 4-2.
DePauw, which never trailed in the game, led 4-3 after the first period and 7-6 at halftime after the hosts scored with just three seconds left.
Caleigh Claar opened the second half with a pair of scores before Otterbein's Carli Rigel and Riley Smith countered to make it 9-8 with 6:11 remaining in the third.
After
Graesen Campbell scored at the 4:39 mark of the third, the Tigers added three more in 49 seconds with
Bridget Driscoll scoring one and
Emily Napier two to push the lead to 13-8 as the teams headed to the fourth.
Driscoll,
Kate Leone, Campbell and Claar all scored in the final stanza for the nine-goal margin.
Claar, Napier and Driscoll each scored four with
Kate Leone adding three. Campbell assisted on four along with two scores of her own. Rigel paced Otterbein with three goals with Ava Robey and Smith adding two each. Robey assisted on four for the Cardinals.
Lydia Hollis recorded 14 saves in goal for DePauw, while Maggie Nance totaled 12 for Otterbein.
Driscoll paced the Tigers with six draw controls with
Maggie Little adding five.
Quinn Tegenkamp's five ground balls led DePauw and she shared the team lead in caused turnovers with Driscoll and Leone as each had two.
Alyssa Glenn finished with six draw controls for Otterbein with Robey, Nna Domanik and Nance each finishing with four ground balls. Robey and Domanik each caused three turnovers.
DePauw held a 37-31 edge in shots including 29-22 on goal. The Tigers finished with 21 turnovers to Otterbein's 27 with DePauw leading in ground balls, 28-20. The Cardinals totaled 17 draw controls to DePauw's 11.
The Tigers host Spalding on Wednesday, March 20, at 6 p.m.
