Bloomington, Ill.- In its second matchup of the 2024 season, DePauw women's lacrosse tallied its second 20-plus goal win over hosts Illinois Wesleyan, beating the Titans 21-5. The Tigers improve to 2-0, while the Titans drop to 1-2 for the season.
DePauw scored fast and often in its win over Illinois Wesleyan. Opening the competition with a goal just 30 seconds into the start of the first quarter and tallying eight goals throughout the quarter, the Tigers found its footing early.
Graesen Campbell led the Tigers with five goals,
Bridget Driscoll and
Emily Napier added four, and
Caleigh Claar had three.
Marley Heitman and Claar paced the team with four assists apiece.
Kate Leone grabbed five ground balls and scored two more goals for the Tigers. Driscoll helped push DePauw's offensive pace with seven draw controls, and teammates
Maggie Little, Claar, and
Delana Underwood each tallied three draw controls for a 20-8 advantage over the Titans.
On the defensive end, 11 different Tigers had a hand in 18 caused turnovers, with
Sydney Shields leading the team with three. The Titans Britney Maldonado paced Illinois Wesleyan with three goals and one assist, while her teammate Devon Hanson added an assist and led the team along with Mallory Mills in caused turnovers with three.
Lydia Hollis finished the night with three saves, while Bri Kiser had 15 for the Titans.
DePauw held a 42-13 advantage in shots and committed 19 turnovers to Illinois Wesleyan's 26. The Tigers held a 25-18 edge in ground balls and were successful on 15 of 17 clear attempts while holding the Titans to just 11 of 23.
DePauw remains on the road this weekend and faces Transylvania University on Saturday, March 9, for a 4 p.m. matchup.
