Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored the game's first 13 goals and moved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 26-5 victory over visiting Hiram. The win was the Tigers' sixth in the last seven contests and the 7-3 start is the best after 10 games in program history. The Terriers dropped to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC.
The Tigers led 7-0 after the opening period and extended it to 15-2 by halftime. DePauw's largest lead came at 25-2 late in the fourth.
Connor Gibson paced DePauw with eight goals to tie the program single-game record he shares with Will Roberts, while
Jack Flynn added five. Gibson, Flynn,
Charlie Rodriguez,
Eli Federman and
Jack Neff each assisted on three scores. All four goalies for the Tigers played one quarter each with
Anthony Reinhardt recording one save and
Aaron Zimmet four.
Levi Willett scored two goals for Hiram with three others adding one apiece. Aidan Griffin stopped nine DePauw shots.
Matthew Roman won 22-of-30 faceoffs for DePauw and recorded 19 ground balls, while six different Tigers had two caused turnovers each.
Hiram's William Luketich won 10-of-34 faceoffs and shared the ground ball lead with Griffin as each had four. Noah Pilgram caused a team-high seven turnovers.
The Tigers held a 57-15 advantage in shots including 35-10 on goal. DePauw also led in ground balls, 54-24, and committed 24 turnovers to Hiram's 25.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday, April 7, with a 1 p.m. NCAC game at Ohio Wesleyan.
